Differential Diagnosis of Diabetic Neuropathy
Sohn Eun-Hee

Abstract
Diabetic neuropathies (DN) are a heterogeneous group which manifest as several types of neuropathies. Distal symmetric polyneuropathy (DPN) is the most common type and causes morbidity with significant impact on the quality of life. However, not all patients with diabetes and peripheral nerve disease experience DN. Neurotoxic medications, alcohol abuse, vitamin B12 deficiency, uremia, inherited neuropathy, chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropahty (CIDP), and vasculitic neuropathy are the most common additional potential causes of neuropathy in patients with diabetes mellitus. Neuropathy with nutrition deficiency, CIDP, and vasculitic neuropathy can be reversed by disease management. Exact diagnosis is important in the proper treatment of patients with diabetes mellitus.
